he is smart, but not as coco and he has a lot of agility (more than Crash).
He knew about Crunch, they were friends, but Crunch became good (Crash Bandicoot the Wrath of Cortex).Crunch escaped from the cortex space ship, and Daniels stayed in the space ship.
Then he tried to escape from the space ship because cortex punished him very strong (a lot of times, cuz he thought that Daniels would be like crash or crunch, and he would become good, besides he did not do anything to stop crunch's and crash's plans)
In his first, and last attempt to escape,
he had a large trip in the ruins of the second island and he could learn a lot of the elementals powers and the story of them, but he does not control the elementals power (only Crunch can do it with help of the 10 ELEMENTAL MASKS). He was trapped again, and uka-uka "deleted" his memories. after that...
Cortex used him to spy the bandicoot family, He cheated Crunch(crash and coco too) and betrayed him, Daniels brang crunch to cortex (this was the beginning of the uka-uka's evil plan).
